How long does iced tea last in the fridge (and how to store it properly)?

"How long can I store cold tea in the fridge?"

It's a question we get a lot (and one I also asked myself at first). I thought I could leave the tea overnight in the fridge, unstrained and uncovered... and of course, the next day the taste was strange, and by the second day, it was completely undrinkable.

It wasn't the tea's fault. It was how I was storing it.

The formula for your cold tea to last up to 72 hours

After much trial and error, here's what I discovered:

1. Strain the tea on time

  • If brewing hot: strain after 5-10 minutes.

  • If "cold brewing": strain after a maximum of 6-8 hours.

Leaving the leaves in longer changes the flavor, making it bitter or "stale."

2. Use a closed container

  • Store your tea in a glass bottle with an airtight lid.

  • Do not use open or thin plastic containers.

Air and light affect the taste and properties of the tea.

3. Be careful with fresh fruit

  • If you add fruit slices (lemon, orange, etc.), consume it in less than 24 hours.

  • Fresh fruit ferments quickly and alters the taste.

One option is to add the fruit just before serving.

With these tips, your cold tea can last up to 3 days

And not just last: maintain its flavor, aroma, and properties. This way you can prepare in advance, take it to work, or always have something refreshing in the fridge without worrying.
