¿Por qué es tan caro el Té Matcha ?

Why is Matcha tea so expensive?

There are several aspects that make Matcha Tea expensive.

1. It is of Japanese origin, made and processed by hand, and handcrafted goods in Japan are expensive.

2. The drying process takes longer than that of other types of tea.

3. Most Matcha tea was historically and is currently kept for internal consumption in Japan. Due to the demand and expansion of the product, its price increases.

We still ask ourselves, is its price justified?

Well, the simple answer is, Yes, if it is of good quality.

What makes a Matcha tea good quality?

1. The intense green color.

This color must last both when it is in powder form and when you are going to drink it after preparing it, with normal dissolution.

2. The leaf used for grinding is the finest part at the front of the leaf, obtaining most of its properties for what is called ceremonial Matcha tea or the middle part, which is for premium matcha.

The rest of the leaf is the tea found on the market for cooking and other uses, or the clever ones pass it off as premium or ceremonial.

3. If it is organic, even better, as it must have the corresponding validation and regulation, ensuring its origin, quality, and preventing deception.

Does it have as many properties as they say?

1. It multiplies the amount of antioxidants by 10 compared to other teas, analyzed by Orac test (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) in English. It is one of the foods that contains the most antioxidant power, such as vitamin C, vitamin E to help improve skin and the immune system, Catechin, a polyphenolic antioxidant that can help reduce triglycerides.

2. It contains Caffeine and L-Theanine; this combination helps maintain energy longer in your body, as the combination of caffeine with L-theanine, which is relaxing, aids this combination.

Being recommended in the mornings to stay active for more hours, as the energy it provides is not sudden like coffee, but lasts for about 6 hours depending on each person.

3. Related to the previous point, by containing caffeine, it helps speed up metabolism, which can aid in weight loss due to its duration in the body.

Also ideal for athletes, taking it half an hour before training.

These are the greatest virtues of this natural drink, with more that we will add in other entries. But we think they are enough to justify its higher price.

How to prepare Matcha tea

It is usually prepared with a bamboo whisk and a bowl for whisking.

1 gram of matcha tea is usually enough for 50ml of water and a little cow's milk, plant-based milk, etc.

Heat the water without letting it boil, pour it into the mixing container (e.g., a bowl), add the Matcha tea, and whisk until a little foam forms. Then add milk to taste and it's ready!
